starting this week’s series with a shot from my amazing bike ride this past friday. tiffany and i headed out to the colchester causeway; it’s one of the best activities to pass the time in the summer!! it was in the mid 60s and sunny – a very pleasant surprise compared to the recent rain we’ve been getting. we finished the afternoon at the st. john’s club – couldn’t have asked for a better end to the week! for those who don’t partake in adult beverages… stop by burlington bay for a maple creemee afterwards instead!
when i bought this little item, i never thought i’d be adding it to the series. but it’s quite fitting for this week because i have used it for every bike ride this year! it’s perfect in that it doesn’t fall off your shoulder, it isn’t too bulky so won’t make you extra hot, yet it is just big enough that it will fit all the essentials. behold, the fifteen hip pack from herschel. one of the best things about it is that it certainly didn’t break the bank. i found mine at urban outfitters.
halo top ice cream is the new “who’s who” of ice cream. i heard about it the other day from a friend and decided to give it a go. her personal favorite is the oatmeal cookie and obviously the grocery store didn’t have that flavor when i was there. i tried the sea salt caramel and i certainly wasn’t disappointed. halo top prides itself of on being low-calorie, high-protein, and low-sugar. so go ahead, give it a try. and don’t feel badly when you finish the entire pint in one sitting.
happy hump day! we’re halfway through the week, yeehaw!
the first item this week is dedicated to all you chefs out there. my sister, tiffany, found this amazing blog (i’d be really interested in how many times have i spoken/written/typed that phrase, ha!) and sent it my way. cookie and kate is a food blog that highlights fresh vegetarian meals, appetizers, snacks and desserts. i’ve tried a handful of her recipes and i’ve LOVED everything! doesn’t hurt that they’re relatively simple to make too!! some of my personal favorites:
best part about the majority of her recipes is that they’re rarely things i would just “throw together” on a random monday night. aka, it’s not just “another taco night” super creative!
the second item in this week’s has a bit of personal nostalgia connected. skip to the third if you’re not into it.
recently all mother nature is giving us is rain. [eye roll.] it’s got me really looking forward to summer! summer in maine at gay island to be precise. the six hour trek to cushing flies by with the windows down on the back roads. we make a quick pit stop at the local store to stock up on wine, last minute goodies and more wine which we schlep down to the dock and load into the boat. a quick ride later and we’re unloading and cracking into the wine. weekends here are best spent with a good book, digging for clams and fishing off the dock. can’t wait for maine 2017!
tattly is an amazing temporary tattoo website based in brooklyn. each tattoo comes in a set of 2 and if your heart so desires it, i’d be surprised if tattly doesn’t sell it. they’re super cute and what friend wouldn’t like a delivery of amazing temporary tattoos?! and you can add confetti to every order – definitely an added bonus. here are a few of my personal favorites. i’d love them during the summer months hanging at the pool or lake.
and if you need even MORE of a reason to buy one… or two or three… some are scented! let me know if you find any you can’t live without! maybe i’ll feel the same way!
so i’ve been addicted to podcasts recently – i listen to them while working out because i find that they keep me more entertained than music does. if you’ve listened to serial you’ll be sure to love ‘up and vanished‘. what i love [and secretly hate] about this one is that because it’s a real time investigation i have to wait for the next week to listen to more and i’m REALLY not good at waiting.
stolen right from the website:
“‘up and vanished’ is an investigative podcast that explores the unsolved disappearance of georgia beauty queen and high school teacher, tara grinstead, an 11-year-old mystery that is the largest case file in georgia’s history. follow along as host payne lindsey, a documentarian turned amateur investigator, examines old case evidence, re-interviews persons of interest, and uncovers new leads, while guiding listeners through his real time investigation. a recent arrest in the case may have given us more questions than answer, and the main question still remains… what happened to tara grinstead?”
when i’m making cocktails at home, the first thing i reach for is this tovolo king cube tray. the ice cubes are the perfect size for every drink because they don’t melt too quickly and they just seem so chic. especially when you’re still a novice cocktail slinger. i actually have two sets…. because who doesn’t love a good party?
i’ve thought about making some variations of ice cubes… found inspiration here.
the last in the series this week is highlighting these cute kids because i’m missing them a ton recently! we need to plan another trip to see them and PRONTO. elyse & tiffy
perhaps we’ll make a stop at our favorite restaurant cook. and while we’re there i might as well swing by cuyana. been dying to check this out!
farm girl flowers, a growing company based outside of san francisco, is my favorite place to order a delivery of flowers from. they work with farmers throughout california to create the most beautiful bouquets. delivery for most items is $25.00 and can be at your door the next day – even if your door is all the way across the U.S. like mine is!
check out their instagram to see some of their previous arrangements!
i’ve been obsessing over the book, ‘the woman in cabin 10’ by ruth ware. i finished it last night and holy moley, it keeps you engaged and i couldn’t put it down. i told myself i’d stop at 9:30 and then it was 11:00 before i finally forced myself to quit. here is a synopsis i stole from google books:
“This was meant to be the perfect trip. The Northern Lights. A luxury press launch on a boutique cruise ship. A chance for travel journalist Lo Blackwood to recover from a traumatic break-in that has left her on the verge of collapse, and to work out what she wants from her relationship.Except things don’t go as planned. Woken in the night by screams, Lo rushes to her window to see a body thrown overboard from the next door cabin. But the records show that no-one ever checked into that cabin, and no passengers are missing from the boat.Exhausted, emotional and increasingly desperate, Lo has to face the fact that her sleep problems might be driving her mad or she is trapped on a boat with a murderer and she is the sole witness…”
i promise you won’t be disappointed.
these little pre-made cocktail stirrers from trader joe’s are a hidden gem. for less than $5.00 a jar, you earn some serious bragging rights when your cocktail has one of these in it. imagine one in a bloody mary… on sunday… during football season… i think yes. i’ll be whipping into mine this upcoming sunday [preparing for a ‘hair of the dog’ cocktail
happy friday for all you traditional working peeps. congrats, you’ve almost made it to the weekend. for me, it’s only the start of my work week and sometimes i really hate working weekends. especially when all my friends are making really fun plans without me. i digress….
i received this book for christmas from tiffany and it’s amazingggggg. i wish our living spaces could look as good as they do in the book. it’s the best coffee table book and it provides plenty of inspiration.
i love checking my email in the morning because i’m always looking for my daily dose of the news. theSkimm honestly makes me feel less naive about the world.
let me start by saying that the two girls who started it are geniuses and i really wish i had this idea.
they start by doing the leg work [aka, lots and lots of reading world news] and then write the “skimm’d” down version into one little email. if you’re in a rush and can only take 5 minutes to read through it, great. if you’re someone who has more time in the morning and can read through some of the articles they link into the email, also, great.
look at THIS HOUSE. or more importantly the views from the house. ian and i were looking into going somewhere to spend a week during the colder months and we stumbled up on this beauty. we never even went anywhere but holy moley, i would love to spend a week here! or even a night or two.
just imagine sippin’ on a glass of rose looking at that every evening. yes please.
i follow onia on instagram and i’ve been obsessing over their instagram stories lately. the suit below is one of my all time favorites found on their website, but some of their new spring items are serious winners.
the two below are [clearly] screen shots of their instagram story a little bit ago. the suit on the right is the yvette one piece – i can’t wait until i can buy it!
this article i found in the new york times is beautifully written. but consider yourself warned – you will go through an entire box of tissues. after a hard day at work, it reiterates how important my job truly is. ❤
for those of you who haven’t heard of kari gran skin care and makeup (more specifically her lip whip), well now you have, and you’re welcome. your lips will thank you. the packaging and presentation is almost so pretty that you don’t want to use it – but then you do and you can’t stop. and even better? it’s all natural with no gross stuff. [yes, stuff].
hiya. i’m aiming to start a weekly “three worthy things” post where i introduce new goodies – places to go, things to buy, pretty houses, interesting articles, good new recipes. if you’d like to see something in particular looked at in more detail let me know!
first up are these prints i found on etsy from tai prints. they’re simple and beautiful. i have two in my bedroom and a third in the downstairs bathroom.
i’ve found the most amazing destination house to visit this summer. or anytime of the year, rather…. this search engine is very similar to airbnb and vrbo, but it’s kid friendly in design. kid and coe have both large and small houses all throughout the world and they’re all perfect for families. i found this one called the acra residence in the catskills mountains of upstate new york and holy moly it looks fabulous. i’d love to head there this summer!
my sister, tiffany, introduced me to meredith hahn jewelry when i was in college. i, honestly, haven’t bought anything from her, but i sure do love her work. i’m a real big fan of the simpler pieces especially this rita necklace. looks great by itself or layered with another necklace.
hope you enjoyed the first ‘three worthy things’! see you next time!
