three worthy things

monday, woof. it really threw me for a loop today. altering this weeks edition just a hair…

i’m going to start with a belated birthday shoutout to tiffany; 39 never looked so good. ūüėČ we celebrated by coaching a lacrosse tournament in new york and then with a dinner at the lobby in middlebury. a friend introduced us to her friend’s jewelry brand, otem, which is based out of brooklyn. this is where i found tiffy’s bday gift. seriously, go check them out, because they have¬†beautiful jewelry.¬†IMG_0606.JPG

going off on the jewelry tangent, i can’t help but share this amazing jewelry brand. i’m seriously obsessing over everything they make. especially their choker/collar necklaces. this bracelet is the first item on my wish list. oh, and check out the instagram account, it makes you want things even more.

next up is, ‘the couple next door‘ by shari lapena.¬†holy moly this book is INSANELY good. i literally could not put it down – i bought it sunday and closed it on wednesday night – ¬†and the ending just leaves you wanting more. i’m desperately hoping there’s a second book. here’s a slight recap taken from goodreads:

“You never know what’s happening on the other side of the wall. Your neighbor told you that she didn’t want your six-month-old daughter at the dinner party. Nothing personal, she just couldn’t stand her crying. Your husband said it would be fine. After all, you only live next door. You’ll have the baby monitor and you’ll take it in turns to go back every half hour. Your daughter was sleeping when you checked on her last. But now, as you race up the stairs in your deathly quiet house, your worst fears are realized. She’s gone.
You’ve never had to call the police before. But now they’re in your home, and who knows what they’ll find there.¬†What would you be capable of, when pushed past your limit?”

a couple weekends ago, some friends of mine introduced me to a lawn game called kubb. to be honest, i was not expecting it to be that fun seeing as that it literally is a bunch of blocks and a couple dowels, but, i was pleasantly proved wrong. add a sunny afternoon, a good group of friends and a case of beer and you’ve got yourself an afternoon.

what are your favorite afternoon lawn games?

a bit of a delay on this ‘week’ of the series… life has been a¬†tiny bit busy and i feel like i’ve finally come up for air. for now….

now that it’s officially june and almost feeling like summer here in vermont [for those of you who, also, live in vermont, you understand] i’m going to introduce you to one of my all time favorite summer essentials – ros√©. which, sure sure, everyone knows and loves ros√© already but i’m currently obsessing over this one. i’ve had a harder time finding it, but recently had it at a friends house who directed me toward costco to buy some. and that is EXACTLY what happened. it’s relatively cheap, comes in a pretty bottle, and is easy to drink. need i say more?Screen Shot 2017-06-04 at 5.25.31 PM.png

i follow a couple of instagram accounts related to medicine which are some of my favorite accounts to follow. i can spend 20 minutes digging through the posts; some are related to surgeries, or mystery diagnoses while some are before and after pictures of traumas. one of these said accounts directed me to codex anatomy Рsuper cool anatomy prints, for cheap too!! i would love a gallery wall with a couple black and white prints.

and if you head there right now, they’re having a buy one get one free sale!

one of the best gifts i have ever received was “a guide to where the best chefs eat” it literally is exactly what it sounds like. the restaurants are tailored based on location and they’re a great resource when planning a trip! it’s also something fun to flip through to see if you’ve ever been to any of the restaurants!Screen Shot 2017-06-04 at 6.26.39 PM.png

and a little flash back to literally a year ago…. wishing it was as warm as it was then. AND wishing we were all at camp. ‚̧

happy sunday, folks.

p.s. i need some feedback on the direction you want these posts to go. aaaaand go.

heyoooooo. happy monday, ya’ll.

starting this week’s series with a shot from my amazing bike ride this past friday. tiffany and i headed out to the¬†colchester causeway; it’s one of the best activities to pass the time in the summer!! it was in the mid 60s and sunny – a¬†very pleasant surprise compared to the recent rain we’ve been getting. we finished the afternoon at the st. john’s club – couldn’t have asked for a better end to the week! for those who don’t partake in adult beverages… stop by burlington bay for a maple creemee afterwards instead!

IMG_0411.JPG

when i bought this little item, i never thought i’d be adding it to the series. but it’s quite fitting for this week because i have used it for every bike ride this year! it’s perfect in that it doesn’t fall off your shoulder, it isn’t too bulky so won’t make you extra hot, yet it is just big enough that it will fit all the essentials. behold, the fifteen hip pack from herschel. one of the best things about it¬†is that it certainly didn’t¬†break the bank. i found mine at urban outfitters.¬†Screen Shot 2017-05-15 at 9.01.41 PM.png

halo top ice cream is the new “who’s who” of ice cream. i heard about it the other day from a friend and decided to give it a go. her personal favorite is the oatmeal cookie and¬†obviously the grocery store didn’t have that flavor when i was there. i tried the sea salt caramel and i certainly wasn’t disappointed. halo top prides itself of on being low-calorie, high-protein, and low-sugar. so go ahead, give it a try. and don’t feel badly when you finish the entire pint in one sitting.¬†Screen Shot 2017-05-15 at 9.15.15 PM.png

what’re your favorite flavors??

happy hump day! we’re halfway through the week, yeehaw!

the first item this week is dedicated to all you chefs out there. my sister, tiffany, found this amazing blog (i’d be really interested in how many times have i spoken/written/typed that phrase, ha!) and sent it my way. cookie and kate is a food blog that highlights fresh vegetarian meals, appetizers, snacks and desserts. i’ve tried a handful of her recipes and i’ve LOVED everything! doesn’t hurt that they’re relatively simple to make too!! some of my personal favorites:

broccoli, cheddar & quinoa gratin

thai red curry with vegetables

roasted cauliflower and lentil tacos with creamy chipotle sauce

best part about the majority of her recipes is that they’re rarely things i would just “throw together” on a random monday night. aka, it’s not just “another taco night” super creative!

the second item in this week’s has a bit of personal nostalgia connected. skip to the third if you’re not into it.

recently all mother nature is giving us is rain. [eye roll.] it’s got me¬†really looking forward to summer! summer in maine at gay island to be precise. ¬†the six hour trek to cushing flies by with the windows down on the back roads. we make a quick pit stop at the local store to stock up on wine, last minute goodies and more wine which we schlep down to the dock and load into the boat. a quick ride later and we’re unloading and cracking into the wine. weekends here are best spent with a good book, digging for clams and fishing off the dock. can’t wait for maine 2017!FullSizeRender-4

tattly is an¬†amazing temporary tattoo website based in brooklyn. each tattoo comes in a set of 2 and if your heart so desires it, i’d be surprised if tattly doesn’t sell it. they’re super cute and what friend wouldn’t like a delivery of amazing temporary tattoos?! and you can add confetti to every order – definitely an added bonus. here are a few of my personal favorites. i’d love them during the summer months hanging at the pool or lake.

and if you need even MORE¬†of a reason to buy one… or two or three… some are scented! let me know if you find any you can’t live without! maybe i’ll feel the same way!

happy rainy thursday. it’s pouring here today. i’m hiding inside currently while i binge grace and frankie on netflix.

so i’ve been addicted to podcasts recently – i listen to them while working out because i find that they keep me more entertained than music does. if you’ve listened to serial you’ll be sure to loveup and vanished‘. what i love [and secretly hate] about this one is that because it’s a real time investigation i have to wait for the next week to listen to more and i’m REALLY not good at waiting.

Screen Shot 2017-04-06 at 11.07.21 AM

stolen right from the website:

“‘up and vanished’ is an investigative podcast that explores the unsolved disappearance of georgia beauty queen and high school teacher, tara grinstead, an 11-year-old mystery that is the largest case file in georgia’s history. follow along as host payne lindsey, a documentarian turned amateur investigator, examines old case evidence, re-interviews persons of interest, and uncovers new leads, while guiding listeners through his real time investigation. a recent arrest in the case may have given us more questions than answer, and the main question still remains… what happened to tara grinstead?”

when i’m making cocktails at home, the first thing i reach for is this tovolo king cube tray. the ice cubes are the perfect size for every drink because they don’t melt too quickly and they just seem so chic. especially when you’re still a novice cocktail slinger. i actually have two sets…. because who doesn’t love a good party?Screen Shot 2017-04-06 at 11.25.26 AM.png

i’ve thought about making some variations of ice cubes… found inspiration here.

the last in the series this week is highlighting these cute kids because i’m missing them a ton recently! we need to plan another trip to see them and PRONTO.IMG_0260.JPG elyse & tiffyfullsizeoutput_d27

perhaps we’ll make a stop at our favorite restaurant cook. and while we’re there i might as well swing by cuyana. been dying to check this out!

farm girl flowers, a growing company based outside of san francisco, is my favorite place to order a delivery of flowers from. they work with farmers throughout california to create the most beautiful bouquets. delivery for most items is $25.00 and can be at your door the next day – even if your door is all the way across the U.S. like mine is!

check out their instagram to see some of their previous arrangements!

my personal fave

i’ve been obsessing over the book, ‘the woman in cabin 10’ by ruth ware. i finished it last night and holy moley, it keeps you engaged and i couldn’t put it down. i told myself i’d stop at 9:30 and then it was 11:00 before i finally forced myself to quit. here is a synopsis i stole from google books:

“This was meant to be the perfect trip. The Northern Lights. A luxury press launch on a boutique cruise ship. A chance for travel journalist Lo Blackwood to recover from a traumatic break-in that has left her on the verge of collapse, and to work out what she wants from her relationship.Except things don’t go as planned. Woken in the night by screams, Lo rushes to her window to see a body thrown overboard from the next door cabin. But the records show that no-one ever checked into that cabin, and no passengers are missing from the boat.Exhausted, emotional and increasingly desperate, Lo has to face the fact that her sleep problems might be driving her mad or she is trapped on a boat with a murderer and she is the sole witness…”

i promise you won’t be disappointed.

these little pre-made cocktail stirrers from trader joe’s are a hidden gem. for less than $5.00 a jar, you earn some serious bragging rights when your cocktail has one of these in it. imagine one in a bloody mary… on sunday… during football season… i think yes. i’ll be whipping into mine this upcoming sunday [preparing for a ‘hair of the dog’ cocktail

happy friday for all you traditional working peeps. congrats, you’ve almost made it to the weekend.¬†for me, it’s only the start of my work week and sometimes i¬†really hate working weekends. especially when all my friends are making really fun plans without me. i digress….

i received this book for christmas from tiffany and it’s amazingggggg. i wish our living spaces¬†could look as good as they do in the book. it’s the best coffee table book and it provides plenty of inspiration.¬†Screen Shot 2017-03-23 at 10.44.49 AM.png

¬†i love checking my email in the morning because¬†i’m always looking for my daily dose of the news. theSkimm¬†honestly makes me feel less naive¬†about the world.

let me start by saying that the two girls who started it are geniuses and i really wish i had this idea.

they start by doing the leg work [aka, lots and lots of reading world news] and then write¬†the “skimm’d” down version into one little email. if you’re in a rush and can only take 5 minutes to read through it, great. if you’re someone who has more time in the morning and can read through some of the articles they link into the email, also, great.

they cover everything from march madness to immigration to the presidential inauguration.

oh and sign up through me. not [really] sure what happens when you do, but just do it. ūüėÄ

look at THIS HOUSE. or more importantly the views from the house. ian and i were looking into going somewhere to spend a week during the colder months and we stumbled up on this beauty. we never even went anywhere but holy moley, i would love to spend a week here! or even a night or two. Screen Shot 2017-03-23 at 11.39.10 AM.png

Screen Shot 2017-03-23 at 11.44.44 AM.png

just imagine sippin’ on a glass of rose looking at that every evening. yes¬†please.
