three worthy things

monday, woof. it really threw me for a loop today. altering this weeks edition just a hair…

i’m going to start with a belated birthday shoutout to tiffany; 39 never looked so good. 😉 we celebrated by coaching a lacrosse tournament in new york and then with a dinner at the lobby in middlebury. a friend introduced us to her friend’s jewelry brand, otem, which is based out of brooklyn. this is where i found tiffy’s bday gift. seriously, go check them out, because they have beautiful jewelry. IMG_0606.JPG

going off on the jewelry tangent, i can’t help but share this amazing jewelry brand. i’m seriously obsessing over everything they make. especially their choker/collar necklaces. this bracelet is the first item on my wish list. oh, and check out the instagram account, it makes you want things even more.

next up is, ‘the couple next door‘ by shari lapena. holy moly this book is INSANELY good. i literally could not put it down – i bought it sunday and closed it on wednesday night –  and the ending just leaves you wanting more. i’m desperately hoping there’s a second book. here’s a slight recap taken from goodreads:

“You never know what’s happening on the other side of the wall. Your neighbor told you that she didn’t want your six-month-old daughter at the dinner party. Nothing personal, she just couldn’t stand her crying. Your husband said it would be fine. After all, you only live next door. You’ll have the baby monitor and you’ll take it in turns to go back every half hour. Your daughter was sleeping when you checked on her last. But now, as you race up the stairs in your deathly quiet house, your worst fears are realized. She’s gone.
You’ve never had to call the police before. But now they’re in your home, and who knows what they’ll find there. What would you be capable of, when pushed past your limit?”

a couple weekends ago, some friends of mine introduced me to a lawn game called kubb. to be honest, i was not expecting it to be that fun seeing as that it literally is a bunch of blocks and a couple dowels, but, i was pleasantly proved wrong. add a sunny afternoon, a good group of friends and a case of beer and you’ve got yourself an afternoon.

what are your favorite afternoon lawn games?

sunday scaries

they’re real. and they’re out and about at this household tonight. i’m just really not looking forward to waking up early tomorrow! i’d just like one more day to sleep in… is that too much to ask??

ian and i spent the weekend boppin’ all over burlington.

friday night we did some birthday celebrating at the single pebble followed by a night on the town complete with karakoe. the unicorn hats from amazon were a big hit. at least for all the females in the group….

we, [along with the rest of america] attended a friend’s derby party saturday afternoon and finished the night at a friends house for dinner and board games. and wine. lots of wine.

we went to claussen’s greenhouse and nursery today and, holy moly, that place is INSANE! it literally has everything you ever wanted and then some. the employees were super friendly and very helpful. i dropped off a cactus that i’ve been attempting to bring back to life and they’re going to work some magic and re-pot it.

my sister bought the cactus for me a couple years ago and it sprouted little babies. as of recently some mysterious mushrooms showed up. this plant really has a mind of it’s own and, honestly, it’s a miracle it’s not dead yet. aren’t cacti supposed to be super easy to take care of….?! because this one is giving me a run for my money. hopefully claussen’s will doctor it up nicely. i’ll post a pic of the new and improved plant once i get it back! fullsizeoutput_14e5.jpeg

i’ll leave you all with one of the best youtube videos ever. it’s 10 minutes long and don’t go trying to skimp through it. it’s worth it.

here are some others to watch when you’re having a bad day.

happy sunday!

2016 in review

as i’m mentally preparing for another year i’ve been scouring over pictures on my computer. new ones, old ones, good, and most certainly bad [admittedly overly self critical over here]. here are a few of my favorite memories from this past year:

marielle and loic’s dinner party was definitely one for the books. and the whole night was extra special because of the paper crowns. fullsizeoutput_970

my co-worker and great friend, jess, and i spent the day at the spa in stowe. massages and facials followed by some steam room and a dip in the pool. it was exactly what the doctor ordered – especially because it was mid week! fullsizeoutput_a4a

every time we go visit our sisters in california i think to myself, “that was one of the best trips out there, it’ll definitely be hard to beat.” and yet, every single time we go back, it get’s a little bit better. our trip this spring was amazing. meagan, was able to fully relax and unwind with baby #1 at home – perfect getaway before baby #2. img_1850

memorial day weekend was one of the most spontaneous and memory filled weekends of the year. spending a weekend at my friend, jess’, camp in charlotte is a luxury and it might be one of my all time favorite places in vermont. it’s so easy to unwind and  not have a care in the world when you’re drinking wine on the porch watching the sunset. Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

our trip to wisconsin this summer was anything but boring. we kept it exciting by visiting the anchor [seen on diners, drive-ins, and dives], running a half marathon and doing some water skiing all within 72 hours. img_2019

one of the highlights of the summer was when my mom came to visit us in burlington. we hiked, we ate, we sat in the sun. we survived a monsoon and went to a show at shelburne museum all in one evening. we, also, wore hats. img_2237

tiffany turned 30. we had the best sister celebration at topnotch in stowe. after a morning of pampering, we took to the pool with cocktails. Processed with VSCO with g3 preset

we spent many a day on the lake. one of the most memorable afternoons was this one. hard to beat a day on the boat. great friends, tunes, and a beer or two will turn anyone’s day right around. img_2423

it will most certainly be hard to beat this day right here – day one of brenna’s bachelorette party at the palms resort in vegas. i think that’s probably all i should say about it…img_2459

ian and i hiked sterling pond this fall. we randomly saw friends halfway up, went for a dip at the top and took the long way home through stowe. it may have been the long way because of all our detours… doc ponds, cider mill, cabot.fullsizeoutput_ce0

twr – aka my dad – made an appearance in burlington this fall. lots of coffee, some exploring in montpelier, and a belly full of pizza rounded out this long weekend. img_2897

can hardly wait for what 2017 brings.

life lately (and not so lately) in photo

told you i’d be back….

this time back in new moon, one of my all time favorite places to go in burlington.

one of the best things about this place is the amount of food they give you. i know, i know, i sound like a total fat kid right now but honestly! i made the mistake once of ordering a medium salad (because i was STARVING) and i didn’t make a dent in it! i barely just finished the small salad i ordered. and yes, i sound super anorexic right now, but i promise you, i’m not. you come here and experience it for yourself.

it’s a gloomy and cloudy day here in burlington. and like my older sister, tiffany, i weirdly love these days. unless they happen like 18 days in a row, then i hate em. but every once in a while, a cloudy day is kinda nice! i’ve decided to spend my day drinking coffee (shocker), working out, chatting with you lovely people, and catching up on some random errands/”to do’s” that have been looming over me for who knows how long.

here is a bit of what i’ve been doing the last like 12 weeks while ignoring you all….. 😐

we went apple picking. on the NICEST day in burlington. and then, so did the rest of vermont. everyone thought it was a great idea to take advantage of the nice weather. we may or may not have had to elbow a few people for the last cider donuts. (;

{and when i say ‘we’ i mean ‘tiffany’}

for those of you who HAVEN’T been apple picking, we went to chapin orchards. gorgeous area in essex. we picked our own, but for those who are in a time crunch, they have pre-picked apples bagged and ready for pick up!

finally did it. i made the decision. more importantly, i made the appointment to go red. here’s a little before and after… i went to the urban salon team and met with stacey. and let me tell you, she’s a GENIUS when it comes to hair color. i was honestly so nervous that i was about to run screaming out of there before i even walked in. she made me feel comfortable and confident in what i was about to do without being too pushy.

and i love love love how it turned out.

p.s. please disregard the stupid faces.

we went to san francisco. SWOON. gosh, i love that city. tiffany and i flew out there for a long weekend to spend time with friends and family. we split up time between san fran and st. helena.

we ate. we drank. we ate some more. and we laughed. lots of laughing.

such an amazing time, i can’t wait to go back!

lots of baby time too. she’ll be 1 in just a few short days. i can’t believe it! she’s still so small but hilarious! watch out world, elyse is comin’ for ya.

i took a picture a while ago of battery park. here are a few more (obviously weeks later) showing the time lapse…. kinda cool. one thing that’s different about vermont from colorado is how red the leaves get here. don’t get me wrong, colorado has gorgeous yellows and oranges but nothing like the deep reds we get in vermont.

there was lots of anticipation for halloween this year mainly because of the fun parties we were attending…

first party was mahana magic. if there’s only one thing to say about it, go. it was seriously the best time ever. it’s a party in charlotte, at the old lantern. the proceeds benefit children’s whose parents have a terminal illness and it does not disappoint. there’s a haunted house that you have to go through in order to get inside the party and once you get inside, it’s like casper the ghost’s dream come true.

another disclaimer about the party – you must go in costume. and not in a ‘costume i just threw together’ but a legit costume.

maleficent. mermaid. slash.

night two of the halloween festivities was held at my friend, greg’s, house. just as fun, but a different type of fun. lots of friends wearing hilarious costumes. these guys won best costumes in my eyes….

night three of halloween involved partying at simone and micha’s gorgeous house in williston. lots of festive decorations, strobe lights, (pretty much) every fletcher allen employee ever hired, and micha’s amazing playlist/dj skills. we also had a mini 25th birthday celebration for me. TOTALLY unexpected, and super thoughtful. saturday was spent brunching with my favorite people in burlington at magnolias, getting facials with tiffany at a local spa, and partying into the wee hours of the morning. not too shabby for a birthday.

singing birthday

hope everyone else’s fall has been just as amazing as mine! can’t wait for the snow to fly – bought my stowe pass the other day! now i’m off to do a mother nature snow dance.

work night

hi all you party people. hopefully you’re enjoying your weekends! i know i have thus far. unfortunately for me, my weekend ends tonight as i have a lovely 12 hour shift tomorrow.

my week recap:

tuesday –

i had those girls over for a little date night. 2 things about that night to mention

1. the soup was SO good. like unbelievably good. and i mentioned how easy it was to make. i’m telling you-make it. you won’t be disappointed. the best part about it is, i threw everything in the crock pot the night before, pulled it out of the fridge set the cook time and voila. love those meals. here’s the recipe.

2. the movie was SO bad. ha. and there i was really excited to see it. let’s just say don’t waste your time. it’s a cool story (i cannot believe that it actually happened) but the acting is horrid. emma watson, you’re a much better hermoine than you are nicki.

can’t forget the company-love those girls so the night wasn’t a total bust. we ate good food, drank good wine, and laughed at the stupidity of the acting.

wednesday –

no updates. work. run. eat. sleep.

thursday –

repeat wednesday

friday –

my roommate, lindsay, and i both had the day off and we were remarkably productive! we’ve been living in our amazing house since the beginning of august but we’re finally starting to make it feel like our home.

and I FIXED MY CLOSET! i obviously am living in the one room in the entire house that doesn’t have a closet. (4th year in a row but don’t get me started….) lindsay and i attempted to hang one on the wall and that was just comical. it was holding up remarkably well for about 72 hours. then it started to make weird noises. there i am in my room, “no it’s definitely not the closet falling out of the wall, it must be like rodents just living in the wall”

i turn around and there are like two or three screws legitimately out of the drywall. side note – we are not as handy as we’d like to believe, in case that wasn’t obvious at this point.

so i ended up ripping the rest of it out of the wall and i put up this bad boy and i’m in love! it was super easy to put together (seeing as that i didn’t have to knock aimlessly around the wall to find a stud to screw it in) and it holds all of my clothes!

the one thing i don’t love is the fact that you can’t hang longer items without them dragging on the floor.

so to fix that little problem i’ll also be making this little contraption. it’s a no-brainer.

after our productive afternoon, we hit the town for our friend jess’ 30th birthday party! it was SO fun. we went to this little place called the cellar in burlington. we drank. we danced. we had a blast. oh, and we took pictures.

p.s. i wore my little booties again last night and i’m even more in love with them. they’re amazing. i would highly recommend purchasing a pair.

and hopefully we’ll wear them on the same day. and we can say we didn’t plan it.

have a fabulous sunday lovies!
