three worthy things

monday, woof. it really threw me for a loop today. altering this weeks edition just a hair…

i’m going to start with a belated birthday shoutout to tiffany; 39 never looked so good. ūüėČ we celebrated by coaching a lacrosse tournament in new york and then with a dinner at the lobby in middlebury. a friend introduced us to her friend’s jewelry brand, otem, which is based out of brooklyn. this is where i found tiffy’s bday gift. seriously, go check them out, because they have¬†beautiful jewelry.¬†IMG_0606.JPG

going off on the jewelry tangent, i can’t help but share this amazing jewelry brand. i’m seriously obsessing over everything they make. especially their choker/collar necklaces. this bracelet is the first item on my wish list. oh, and check out the instagram account, it makes you want things even more.

next up is, ‘the couple next door‘ by shari lapena.¬†holy moly this book is INSANELY good. i literally could not put it down – i bought it sunday and closed it on wednesday night – ¬†and the ending just leaves you wanting more. i’m desperately hoping there’s a second book. here’s a slight recap taken from goodreads:

“You never know what’s happening on the other side of the wall. Your neighbor told you that she didn’t want your six-month-old daughter at the dinner party. Nothing personal, she just couldn’t stand her crying. Your husband said it would be fine. After all, you only live next door. You’ll have the baby monitor and you’ll take it in turns to go back every half hour. Your daughter was sleeping when you checked on her last. But now, as you race up the stairs in your deathly quiet house, your worst fears are realized. She’s gone.
You’ve never had to call the police before. But now they’re in your home, and who knows what they’ll find there.¬†What would you be capable of, when pushed past your limit?”

a couple weekends ago, some friends of mine introduced me to a lawn game called kubb. to be honest, i was not expecting it to be that fun seeing as that it literally is a bunch of blocks and a couple dowels, but, i was pleasantly proved wrong. add a sunny afternoon, a good group of friends and a case of beer and you’ve got yourself an afternoon.

what are your favorite afternoon lawn games?

new year, new blogger.

so i log onto wordpress this morning, and what notification do i see but a ‘happy anniversary with wordpress’ post. i think to myself, “oh my gosh, how cute, can’t believe it’s been two years.” and then i click it….

you guys. it’s been FIVE YEARS. five years has come and gone and what do i have to show for it? a blog that i¬†really love to write, but also a blog that i’m¬†so inconsistent¬†in doing so. a week will come and go and i’ll post a couple times, and yet i’ll let three weeks fly by and not post once. when i started sequins & sneakers i was [wishfully] thinking that it was going to be easy – posting, brainstorm, and writing about cool things – i mean, sounds easy, right? and boy was i wrong. when you don’t dedicate enough time or energy into something, (as hard as it may seem) it won’t just generate out of thin air. SHOCKER, I KNOW. so here i am, ranting about not doing something that i am¬†perfectly capable of doing. i just have to commit and make time for the things i enjoy.

so here i am, feeling like it’s a ‘wordpress new year’. so, happy new year, folks. and as they say… new year, new blogger. with this ‘new year’, i’m going to make a few resolutions. there’s really nothing like airing all your resolutions out in the open for everyone to know because, guaranteed at least¬†one person will ask you about them.

-make a space that’s mine to work in. i want it to feel light and airy, and full of inspiration. here are a few pinterest inspiration desks: this one originally found here. love the natural light from this one, originally found here.¬†i’m obsessed with a crisp white peg board wall like this one, originally found here.

-be more intentional with my posts. start planning for them more – plan topics, plan outfit shoots, plan cocktail making [twist my arm…]. finding a ton of help and motivation from these bad a** babes.

-take better photos and tailor my instagram towards one “vibe” instead of hundreds. you all know what i’m talking about… can’t have ‘light and airy’ but also ‘dark and gloomy’ AND ‘bright and full of color’ in one. it’s like multiple personalities. and i currently have about 5. and i’m working on it, okay?

alright, i’m going to start there. because i could totally keep throwing out resolutions but i need something small and attainable to start with. so with those, i’m going to leave you. i’ll see you in the new year. ūüėÄIMG_0598

life lately in photo

happy sunday, kids!! i hope everyone had a fabulous weekend. as you’re all well aware, i’ve been less than stellar at keeping up with the jones’ [aka sequins & stripes, a cup of jo, the fox & she, or the golden girl]… but i sure have been having a good time. here’s a brief recap:

we made our first maine trip of the summer where we spent the days lounging on the deck, boating over to port clyde¬†for lunch, attempting to play polish horseshoes (HUGE FAIL – the dogs didn’t understand that we weren’t throwing the frisbee for them….], and enjoying the company of great friends. the weekend¬†flew by¬†and before we knew it, it was time to pack up the cars and head home.¬†Processed with VSCO with c1 presetProcessed with VSCO with c1 presetProcessed with VSCO with c1 presetProcessed with VSCO with m5 preset

lake street dive played at the shelburne museum¬†on friday night. it ended up being a gorgeous night for the show – cool and dry. mother nature really treated us to the best weather that night. if you haven’t been to a show there, put it on your bucket list.

we packed a picnic, grabbed some blankets and hunkered down right by the beer tent.¬†420546AE-577C-48B9-9928-829FECBB8F23.jpgthe funniest part about the whole evening was that jess and i ended up wearing the¬†exact same outfit. and i promise you, we didn’t plan it.

i couldn’t sit still long enough for a decent photo. sorry, jess. ūüėÄ i promise i’ll do better next time.

saturday night was spent with co-workers and great friends celebrating the graduation of our chief residents. dinner and the award ceremony was held at the davis center followed by drinks and more drinks downtown. we wanted a group photo. this is the only one we took. oops. fullsizeoutput_15b5

and the best part about the whole thing…. it’s a blurry selfie.

we closed out the weekend at ian’s camp in colchester. it really is hard to complain about an afternoon of sunshine and a good¬†book.IMG_0556

speaking of books… i’ve been tearing through them recently and in desperate need of some recommendations! if you know of any good ones, please send them my way!

three worthy things

heyoooooo. happy monday, ya’ll.

starting this week’s series with a shot from my amazing bike ride this past friday. tiffany and i headed out to the¬†colchester causeway; it’s one of the best activities to pass the time in the summer!! it was in the mid 60s and sunny – a¬†very pleasant surprise compared to the recent rain we’ve been getting. we finished the afternoon at the st. john’s club – couldn’t have asked for a better end to the week! for those who don’t partake in adult beverages… stop by burlington bay for a maple creemee afterwards instead!

when i bought this little item, i never thought i’d be adding it to the series. but it’s quite fitting for this week because i have used it for every bike ride this year! it’s perfect in that it doesn’t fall off your shoulder, it isn’t too bulky so won’t make you extra hot, yet it is just big enough that it will fit all the essentials. behold, the fifteen hip pack from herschel. one of the best things about it¬†is that it certainly didn’t¬†break the bank. i found mine at urban outfitters.¬†Screen Shot 2017-05-15 at 9.01.41 PM.png

halo top ice cream is the new “who’s who” of ice cream. i heard about it the other day from a friend and decided to give it a go. her personal favorite is the oatmeal cookie and¬†obviously the grocery store didn’t have that flavor when i was there. i tried the sea salt caramel and i certainly wasn’t disappointed. halo top prides itself of on being low-calorie, high-protein, and low-sugar. so go ahead, give it a try. and don’t feel badly when you finish the entire pint in one sitting.¬†Screen Shot 2017-05-15 at 9.15.15 PM.png

what’re your favorite flavors??
