sunday scaries

they’re real. and they’re out and about at this household tonight. i’m just really not looking forward to waking up early tomorrow! i’d just like one more day to sleep in… is that too much to ask??

ian and i spent the weekend boppin’ all over burlington.

friday night we did some birthday celebrating at the single pebble followed by a night on the town complete with karakoe. the unicorn hats from amazon were a big hit. at least for all the females in the group….

we, [along with the rest of america] attended a friend’s derby party saturday afternoon and finished the night at a friends house for dinner and board games. and wine. lots of wine.

we went to claussen’s greenhouse and nursery today and, holy moly, that place is INSANE! it literally has everything you ever wanted and then some. the employees were super friendly and very helpful. i dropped off a cactus that i’ve been attempting to bring back to life and they’re going to work some magic and re-pot it.

THANK THE GODS THAT THERE IS SOMEONE WHO IS WILLING TO RE-POT A HUGE CACTUS BECAUSE I COULDN’T IMAGINE.

my sister bought the cactus for me a couple years ago and it sprouted little babies. as of recently some mysterious mushrooms showed up. this plant really has a mind of it’s own and, honestly, it’s a miracle it’s not dead yet. aren’t cacti supposed to be super easy to take care of….?! because this one is giving me a run for my money. hopefully claussen’s will doctor it up nicely. i’ll post a pic of the new and improved plant once i get it back! fullsizeoutput_14e5.jpeg

i’ll leave you all with one of the best youtube videos ever. it’s 10 minutes long and don’t go trying to skimp through it. it’s worth it.

here are some others to watch when you’re having a bad day.

happy sunday!

farm girl flowers, a growing company based outside of san francisco, is my favorite place to order a delivery of flowers from. they work with farmers throughout california to create the most beautiful bouquets. delivery for most items is $25.00 and can be at your door the next day – even if your door is all the way across the U.S. like mine is!

check out their instagram to see some of their previous arrangements!

i’ve been obsessing over the book, ‘the woman in cabin 10’ by ruth ware. i finished it last night and holy moley, it keeps you engaged and i couldn’t put it down. i told myself i’d stop at 9:30 and then it was 11:00 before i finally forced myself to quit. here is a synopsis i stole from google books:

“This was meant to be the perfect trip. The Northern Lights. A luxury press launch on a boutique cruise ship. A chance for travel journalist Lo Blackwood to recover from a traumatic break-in that has left her on the verge of collapse, and to work out what she wants from her relationship.Except things don’t go as planned. Woken in the night by screams, Lo rushes to her window to see a body thrown overboard from the next door cabin. But the records show that no-one ever checked into that cabin, and no passengers are missing from the boat.Exhausted, emotional and increasingly desperate, Lo has to face the fact that her sleep problems might be driving her mad or she is trapped on a boat with a murderer and she is the sole witness…”

i promise you won’t be disappointed.

these little pre-made cocktail stirrers from trader joe’s are a hidden gem. for less than $5.00 a jar, you earn some serious bragging rights when your cocktail has one of these in it. imagine one in a bloody mary… on sunday… during football season… i think yes. i’ll be whipping into mine this upcoming sunday [preparing for a ‘hair of the dog’ cocktail

three worthy things

happy friday for all you traditional working peeps. congrats, you’ve almost made it to the weekend. for me, it’s only the start of my work week and sometimes i really hate working weekends. especially when all my friends are making really fun plans without me. i digress….

i received this book for christmas from tiffany and it’s amazingggggg. i wish our living spaces could look as good as they do in the book. it’s the best coffee table book and it provides plenty of inspiration. Screen Shot 2017-03-23 at 10.44.49 AM.png

i love checking my email in the morning because i’m always looking for my daily dose of the news. theSkimm honestly makes me feel less naive about the world.

let me start by saying that the two girls who started it are geniuses and i really wish i had this idea.

they start by doing the leg work [aka, lots and lots of reading world news] and then write the “skimm’d” down version into one little email. if you’re in a rush and can only take 5 minutes to read through it, great. if you’re someone who has more time in the morning and can read through some of the articles they link into the email, also, great.

they cover everything from march madness to immigration to the presidential inauguration.

oh and sign up through me. not [really] sure what happens when you do, but just do it. 😀

look at THIS HOUSE. or more importantly the views from the house. ian and i were looking into going somewhere to spend a week during the colder months and we stumbled up on this beauty. we never even went anywhere but holy moley, i would love to spend a week here! or even a night or two. Screen Shot 2017-03-23 at 11.39.10 AM.png

just imagine sippin’ on a glass of rose looking at that every evening. yes please.

three worthy things

hiya. i’m aiming to start a weekly “three worthy things” post where i introduce new goodies – places to go, things to buy, pretty houses, interesting articles, good new recipes. if you’d like to see something in particular looked at in more detail let me know!

first up are these prints i found on etsy from tai prints. they’re simple and beautiful. i have two in my bedroom and a third in the downstairs bathroom. Screen Shot 2017-03-09 at 7.05.35 PM

i’ve found the most amazing destination house to visit this summer. or anytime of the year, rather…. this search engine is very similar to airbnb and vrbo, but it’s kid friendly in design. kid and coe have both large and small houses all throughout the world and they’re all perfect for families. i found this one called the acra residence in the catskills mountains of upstate new york and holy moly it looks fabulous. i’d love to head there this summer! Screen Shot 2017-03-09 at 7.15.14 PMScreen Shot 2017-03-09 at 7.14.12 PMScreen Shot 2017-03-09 at 7.37.20 PM

my sister, tiffany, introduced me to meredith hahn jewelry when i was in college. i, honestly, haven’t bought anything from her, but i sure do love her work. i’m a real big fan of the simpler pieces especially this rita necklace. looks great by itself or layered with another necklace. Screen Shot 2017-03-09 at 7.32.15 PMScreen Shot 2017-03-09 at 7.32.06 PM

hope you enjoyed the first ‘three worthy things’! see you next time!

hello, summer.

this past weekend, summer made it’s debut here in vermont. it was hot and humid and the sun was out and about. overall a weekend for the books.

[here is a sneak peek of the said something i’ve been working on….]

more where that came from in another post.

this memorial day weekend was spent sitting lakeside. my friend, jess and her family has the most amazing ‘camp’ in charlotte. [for those of you not familiar with an east coast, camp… it’s really just a house. on a lake. and hers is amazing.]

the view from the covered porch

we first had coffee filled lazy mornings on the wrap-around porch followed by afternoons in the sun. evenings we spent chasing the sunset on her boat with a good cocktail, good food, and perhaps a night of skinny dipping. :O

it was really the best weekend. great friends, a gorgeous location, and amazing weather – i mean, what else could we ask for?!

huge thanks goes out to jess and her family for the amazing generosity!

once we left camp, it was a gradual return to reality. [thankfully!]

after a long run this morning i headed over to gardner’s supply. i’ve been searching for some large pots and plants to fill the front porch and i figured today was a good day to complete the task.

here are a few blog posts where i drew some inspiration:

sick day//

i’ve been kicking winter’s butt this season! plenty of sleep (when my social life allowed, obviously), tons of water, and ample emergenC kits down the hatch.

until this weekend.

started with the sore throat saturday morning. [and here i was thinking, i could flush it out of my system, ha.] went to bed saturday night, and BAM sunday hit me like a ton of bricks. i bailed on [probably the last day] skiing and was stuck in bed. the chills, snotty head/nose, killer headache and just downright ugly. slept for the majority of the morning, took a bath, drank a smoothie, and back to bed i went.

here it is monday, called in sick to work for my first 8 hours thinking that i just might feel well enough to work the last 4. but then i realized, that having a sick nurse might be the worst thing ever. and none of my co-workers want to be around me – it’s just gross. no amount of surgical masks or hand sanitizer could fix this. i’ve been sleeping on and off the entire day. it’s taken me about 3 separate naps to even get this far in my post! 😀

so here i am, with hands dryer than the sahara, because of all the soap and water i’ve used on them in the last 24 hours, a stuffy head, a runny nose, and unwashed hair. i need your help!!!! give me all your remedies, your fixes, your healing powers. if you have a tried and true system to beating a cold – or even symptom management – send them my way please!

so before i got to sick, my friend jordan and i went to the annual “mother of all sales” in burlington. it’s one of the best weekends of the whole year! or at least in my eyes it is.

here are a few things i snagged/stole/haggled from it this year….

[i didn’t actually steal anything, some of the prices were just so good, that it felt like stealing]

bobbi brown hydrating intense night creamScreen Shot 2016-03-21 at 4.46.34 PM

i scored this bad boy from mirror mirror. i’ve been needing a good hydrating night cream, and i figured i’d give this one a shot while it was on sale. and i know what you’re thinking, “did you only buy it because it was on sale?” and the answer is both yes and no. yes, because what better time to try something that is usually over $60 – that way if i hated it, i wouldn’t feel that badly. and the answer is no, because bobbi is quite a power house when it comes to skin care, and when was the last time she made anything that sucked??

bobbi brown luxe lip color in sunset orange

Screen Shot 2016-03-21 at 5.46.39 PM.png

this was my first bobbi lipstick purchase and it most definitely won’t be my last. it actually feels more like a chapstick/non-sticky lip gloss to me, but it has this amazing staining power. it’s the best. i don’t even know what else to say, besides go buy it.

frye harness 8R boots

Screen Shot 2016-03-21 at 4.43.03 PM

these were majorly on sale and more of a last minute impulse buy, if you will…. which is sometimes the best and sometimes the worst. the best when you get home and really love what you bought with no buyers remorse. the worst when you feel guilty for buying what you bought. these, are definitely in the best category.

lafco tree scented candle

Screen Shot 2016-03-21 at 5.28.39 PM

and yes, i know it technically says holiday candle, but who doesn’t love the fresh smell of pine year round?! it’s super clean, and can be burned all the time. and when i say all the time, i mean it. these candles last for ever. they’re the best. mirror mirror sells them year round! i’m quite a picky candle burner too. even if i like the smell of the candle, it doesn’t mean i will buy it. i’m big into the aesthetics of the jar as well. i can’t have just anything cluttering up my bookshelves and countertops. what i love about these is that they always come in a very neutral jar!

i’ll be sure to post some outfit pics with the boots and lip stick when i’m feeling a bit better. because if i were to post a pic now, you’d all run for your lives. hopefully i’ll feel better in a few days and i don’t have to work until friday so i’ll spend the rest of the week drinking fluids, scouring the internet, and sleeping.

happy spring, love birds!

cup of tea

happy day after president’s day! hope that everyone was able to enjoy a nice long weekend! it was bitterly cold this weekend, and today, we’ve got freezing rain! hello winter. if it doesn’t snow here in a little bit, i’m going to have a mental breakdown. which will then turn into a physical breakdown.

you’ve all been warned.

i actually had yesterday off – first monday i’ve had off since i’ve started my job! didn’t do it on purpose, just made a trade with a co-worker who needed a shift covered, and i lucked out! something about having monday off (even when i had to work the weekend), i felt almost guilty. but it was quite lovely.

woke up, drank some coffee, responded to some emails, worked out. then tiffany and i went adventuring.

first stop- the shed sales antique store – it’s called a store, but i do think the man who owns it, lives in half of the building. it’s a random stand alone house on shelburne road, you’ll know when you see it, because the windows are JAMMED with all sorts of items.

for anyone that lives in the burlington/shelburne area you will all know of this place. for those of you who don’t know anything about the area (store), i’ll preface it with a few ground rules: only go to said store when feeling skinny, always bring a friend, and never go in the winter.

  • only go to said store when feeling skinny – exhibit A. i don’t think i need to say anything.

IMG_1607

this was a snapchat that i had taken, but it was too good not to screen shot it and post it here too. literally every.single.surface.is.covered.with.stuff. just a small area to walk, the counters, the walls, and as you can see here, the ceilings. i could only imagine how long it took this man to put a price tag on every single thing.

  • always bring a friend – exhibit B. there are so many nooks and crannies, it is honestly kind of creepy. the lights aren’t always on, and we had to use our phone flashlights to see things. all of a sudden we’re walking down a row, i look up, and see a full size mannequin. i just about peed my pants.

IMG_1609

once my heart rate had slowed down enough, i was able to take a picture. HA.

  • never go in the winter – exhibit C.  i think this is the most important take away point. the guy doesn’t heat the place. like at all. we walked inside, and no joke, it was colder inside than it was outside. we walked around as fast as we could, but had to leave because we were so cold! we probably could’ve spent a few more hours scouring through everything, but our toes couldn’t handle it.

IMG_1608

notice, the hood, the hands in the pockets. i think if you look close enough you could probably see her breath.

once we got into the car, we were able to talk about what just happened. overall, it is a very cool place. the owner told us that he’s been collecting for over 40 years, and just keeps finding new stuff. however, i’m not sure he’ll have a surface to put anything new on.

it is also very sad. the guy is by definition a hoarder. the prices of things were way too ridiculously high for anyone to buy them, which perhaps may have been done intentionally, because then nothing gets sold. i’m sure people have come along and bought an item here or there, but it was just crazy what he was asking for things. he had the most amazing tea cup collection along with plates and serving wear – tiffany had said at one point, that it would be cool to buy stuff for a outdoor summer wedding from him – until we looked at the prices. each plate was at least $12, each cup and saucer was at least $10. i could go on over to my (not so local) anthropologie and buy all brand new stuff for those prices! i digress…..

if you’re ever cruising around town in the summer with your bestie, go check this place out. it’s worth a visit.
