sunday scaries

they’re real. and they’re out and about at this household tonight. i’m just really not looking forward to waking up early tomorrow! i’d just like one more day to sleep in… is that too much to ask??

ian and i spent the weekend boppin’ all over burlington.

friday night we did some birthday celebrating at the single pebble followed by a night on the town complete with karakoe. the unicorn hats from amazon were a big hit. at least for all the females in the group….

we, [along with the rest of america] attended a friend’s derby party saturday afternoon and finished the night at a friends house for dinner and board games. and wine. lots of wine.

we went to claussen’s greenhouse and nursery today and, holy moly, that place is INSANE! it literally has everything you ever wanted and then some. the employees were super friendly and very helpful. i dropped off a cactus that i’ve been attempting to bring back to life and they’re going to work some magic and re-pot it.

my sister bought the cactus for me a couple years ago and it sprouted little babies. as of recently some mysterious mushrooms showed up. this plant really has a mind of it’s own and, honestly, it’s a miracle it’s not dead yet. aren’t cacti supposed to be super easy to take care of….?! because this one is giving me a run for my money. hopefully claussen’s will doctor it up nicely. i’ll post a pic of the new and improved plant once i get it back! fullsizeoutput_14e5.jpeg

i’ll leave you all with one of the best youtube videos ever. it’s 10 minutes long and don’t go trying to skimp through it. it’s worth it.

here are some others to watch when you’re having a bad day.

happy sunday!

three worthy things

happy rainy thursday. it’s pouring here today. i’m hiding inside currently while i binge grace and frankie on netflix.

so i’ve been addicted to podcasts recently – i listen to them while working out because i find that they keep me more entertained than music does. if you’ve listened to serial you’ll be sure to loveup and vanished‘. what i love [and secretly hate] about this one is that because it’s a real time investigation i have to wait for the next week to listen to more and i’m REALLY not good at waiting.

stolen right from the website:

“‘up and vanished’ is an investigative podcast that explores the unsolved disappearance of georgia beauty queen and high school teacher, tara grinstead, an 11-year-old mystery that is the largest case file in georgia’s history. follow along as host payne lindsey, a documentarian turned amateur investigator, examines old case evidence, re-interviews persons of interest, and uncovers new leads, while guiding listeners through his real time investigation. a recent arrest in the case may have given us more questions than answer, and the main question still remains… what happened to tara grinstead?”

when i’m making cocktails at home, the first thing i reach for is this tovolo king cube tray. the ice cubes are the perfect size for every drink because they don’t melt too quickly and they just seem so chic. especially when you’re still a novice cocktail slinger. i actually have two sets…. because who doesn’t love a good party?Screen Shot 2017-04-06 at 11.25.26 AM.png

i’ve thought about making some variations of ice cubes… found inspiration here.

the last in the series this week is highlighting these cute kids because i’m missing them a ton recently! we need to plan another trip to see them and PRONTO.IMG_0260.JPG elyse & tiffyfullsizeoutput_d27

perhaps we’ll make a stop at our favorite restaurant cook. and while we’re there i might as well swing by cuyana. been dying to check this out!

farm girl flowers, a growing company based outside of san francisco, is my favorite place to order a delivery of flowers from. they work with farmers throughout california to create the most beautiful bouquets. delivery for most items is $25.00 and can be at your door the next day – even if your door is all the way across the U.S. like mine is!

check out their instagram to see some of their previous arrangements!

my personal fave

i’ve been obsessing over the book, ‘the woman in cabin 10’ by ruth ware. i finished it last night and holy moley, it keeps you engaged and i couldn’t put it down. i told myself i’d stop at 9:30 and then it was 11:00 before i finally forced myself to quit. here is a synopsis i stole from google books:

“This was meant to be the perfect trip. The Northern Lights. A luxury press launch on a boutique cruise ship. A chance for travel journalist Lo Blackwood to recover from a traumatic break-in that has left her on the verge of collapse, and to work out what she wants from her relationship.Except things don’t go as planned. Woken in the night by screams, Lo rushes to her window to see a body thrown overboard from the next door cabin. But the records show that no-one ever checked into that cabin, and no passengers are missing from the boat.Exhausted, emotional and increasingly desperate, Lo has to face the fact that her sleep problems might be driving her mad or she is trapped on a boat with a murderer and she is the sole witness…”

i promise you won’t be disappointed.

these little pre-made cocktail stirrers from trader joe’s are a hidden gem. for less than $5.00 a jar, you earn some serious bragging rights when your cocktail has one of these in it. imagine one in a bloody mary… on sunday… during football season… i think yes. i’ll be whipping into mine this upcoming sunday [preparing for a ‘hair of the dog’ cocktail

three worthy things

happy friday for all you traditional working peeps. congrats, you’ve almost made it to the weekend. for me, it’s only the start of my work week and sometimes i really hate working weekends. especially when all my friends are making really fun plans without me. i digress….

i received this book for christmas from tiffany and it’s amazingggggg. i wish our living spaces could look as good as they do in the book. it’s the best coffee table book and it provides plenty of inspiration. Screen Shot 2017-03-23 at 10.44.49 AM.png

i love checking my email in the morning because i’m always looking for my daily dose of the news. theSkimm honestly makes me feel less naive about the world.

let me start by saying that the two girls who started it are geniuses and i really wish i had this idea.

they start by doing the leg work [aka, lots and lots of reading world news] and then write the “skimm’d” down version into one little email. if you’re in a rush and can only take 5 minutes to read through it, great. if you’re someone who has more time in the morning and can read through some of the articles they link into the email, also, great.

they cover everything from march madness to immigration to the presidential inauguration.

oh and sign up through me. not [really] sure what happens when you do, but just do it. 😀

look at THIS HOUSE. or more importantly the views from the house. ian and i were looking into going somewhere to spend a week during the colder months and we stumbled up on this beauty. we never even went anywhere but holy moley, i would love to spend a week here! or even a night or two. Screen Shot 2017-03-23 at 11.39.10 AM.png

just imagine sippin’ on a glass of rose looking at that every evening. yes please.

saint valentine’s gift guide

heyooooo, happy tuesday, folks. here we are, a week away, from valentine’s day. and here i am, to help you get through the holiday in one piece. here are some amazing ideas if you’re into the gift giving part of the holiday… and if you’re not, well, you can still spoil yourself. right….?

for the ladies:

this initial necklace from vrai&oro. it’s simple and elegant. it can be worn alone or layered with some other bling. it comes in silver, gold or rose gold. it also comes in two separate lengths, 16 or 18 inches. and for those of you who are just like me, you’ll need this chart for reference.

Screen Shot 2017-02-07 at 10.27.33 PM.png

this amazingly adorable card. there really isn’t anything like a handwritten note. if all you do is write a nice card, you’re in the clear – trust me. Screen Shot 2017-02-07 at 10.35.15 PM.png

this entertaining set from heath ceramics. heath has some of the best dinnerware, mugs and serveware. their pieces are timeless, albeit pricey. this entertaining set has 3 separate sized platters and 4 cute cocktail napkins – perfect for a girls night or small dinner party. Screen Shot 2017-02-07 at 11.06.32 PM.png

this vince camuto perfume. i actually bought this for myself the other day and i found it at nordstrom rack. they had a smaller bottle AND a roller ball version which i, personally, love because it’s a great way to try out a new scent without breaking the bank. Screen Shot 2017-02-07 at 11.16.27 PM.png

for the guys:

this coffee mug. nothing says, ‘i love you’ (or even ‘i like you’) like a receptacle to hold your coffee in and he’ll think of you every time he fills it. and better yet, get him a coffee subscription or gift card to go with it.

Screen Shot 2017-02-07 at 10.38.42 PM.png

this pocket knife. it’s a classic and he’ll feel quite BA when he carries it. it definitely won’t break the bank either. and yes, i have already told you to buy this in my guy gift guide – so if you haven’t, now is your second chance. don’t miss out. Screen Shot 2017-02-07 at 10.48.17 PM.png

these hestra leather driving gloves. nothing will keep his hands warmer during the winter months. they’re stylish and, i mean, they look amazingly soft. here is a little reference article to help keep your gloves in tip-top shape.

Screen Shot 2017-02-07 at 10.55.57 PM.png

this everlane cashmere sweater. everlane has the best prices for cashmere and they don’t skimp on quality. you’ll never stop hugging the guy when he’s wearing this thing.

regardless if your valentine is your long time significant other, your mom, or your best girlfriend i hope this guide gives you all the inspiration you need to spoil them.

winter must haves

it’s really feeling like winter around these parts – and winter for me, brings a dry body. dry skin, dry hair, dry nails, you name it, it’s dry. so here i am trying to not look like a snake that’s about to molt a layer of skin while finding a balance of using natural products that make me feel good from the outside in. here are a few of my favorite products that are helping me get through the winter months.

bumble and bumble don’t blow it serum – i’ve been trying to eliminate the number of days that i use heat on my hair and my sister, tiffany, introduced this to me. it’s one of my new favorite creams. i shampoo and condition like normal and then use a nickel sized amount on wet hair. sometimes i’ll even use a pea sized amount once my hair is completely dry. give it a try – you won’t believe what your hair can do with it!

everyone 3 in 1 unscented lotion –  this is probably my all time favorite lotion. i found it at whole foods and it, thankfully, falls into my ‘all natural’ kick. i’m notorious for having super sensitive skin and this is one lotion that won’t further irritate it. it’s thick enough to help with the scales but it’s not so thick that you have to wait 20 minutes to sink in before putting jeans on. and don’t try to pretend that you don’t know what i’m talking about…

because of the sensitivity, i, honestly, haven’t tried it on my face like it says you can, but i’m sure it would be great!

indie lee squalane facial oil – a friend told me about indie lee products and i’m obsessed. i bought it from amazon but their website is super cute! AND if you sign up to receive their emails, you’ll get an extra 15% off your first order! what i love about this serum is, again, it’s not too thick. i was SUPER hesitant to put oil on my face but i tried and i’m in love! i don’t think i can go back to a regular cream after using this stuff. i use it both morning and night and my face feels like the sahara if i don’t use it. i’d love to try her swiss apple facial serum – please let me know if you have!!

pacifica alight multi-mineral bb cream – i read about this tinted bb cream from the free people blog and wanted to give it a go. i had a hard time finding it but found it at whole foods on my last road trip and found it for under $20-bonus!! it provides decent coverage but feels relatively light at the same time. it’s not sticky which is key for me. sometimes, if i’m super dry, i’ll mix it with my indie lee facial oil. give it a shot, you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

maybelline color sensational matte lipstick – again, thanks to tiffany, for finding this one. she, not surprisingly, found it on a blog but had the hardest time finding it in a drug store. it’s not as matte as i was expecting but maybe that’s because i wear chapstick under it. i’m pretty happy with the color and consistency and i like how it wears. it doesn’t leave a stain or the ‘i’m wearing lip liner because the lip stick has faded’ look once it wears off. screen-shot-2017-01-25-at-2-44-30-pm

let me know if i’m missing any of your favorite winter must haves!

christmas celebrations

now that my computer has officially dried out and turned back on (in case you didn’t see the latest instagram post, i spilled coffee all over my computer christmas eve and it’s been drying ever since) i’m back! keep your fingers crossed that it continues to work…. PLEASE!

we spent this past weekend celebrating christmas and spending some serious quality time with friends and family. my parents flew in on friday and we haven’t stopped eating/drinking/galavanting around the town since. here is a small glimpse into the past couple of days…

first stop we made was one of my mom’s all time favorite restaurants, tiny thai, a small local favorite that’s BYOB it’s a seriously  hard to beat. and their takeout is a good as the dine in – which certainly isn’t always the case!

after dinner we headed back to my house to begin our christmas eve tradition – the annual book swap.

growing up, we were always allowed to open one gift on christmas eve and 9 times out of 10, it was ususally pajamas. now that we’ve grown up a bit [who am i kidding, we haven’t grown up] we’ve tailored our tradition a bit.

a couple weeks before the holiday we draw names and pick who we buy a book for; it can be hard cover, paper back, an audiobook, e-book, or even a magazine subscription. we’ve only been doing it a couple of years but it’s one of my favorite parts of christmas.

the next morning we did the full christmas thing – stockings, coffee, mimosas, more coffee, cinnamon rolls, and gifts. fullsizeoutput_10f5

pajamas and mimosas

we relaxed most of the morning, went for a long walk, and prepared for some dinner guests that evening. tiffany definitely takes the cake for her cheese board skills. fullsizeoutput_1146

i had to work christmas day but luckily i was able to escape at 3:30 and head home for another night of dinner guests, drinks, and laughs.

spreading merry around the hospital

after plenty of cocktails and far too much food we busted out the game of things. it was the first time i played it and it was hysterical. keep the wine flowing and you’ll certainly have a blast. img_3233

this was the best we could do….

yesterday we worked out, made a couple of returns and went to manchester by the sea. it was amazing. be sure to bring some tissues and show up earlier anticipated – the ENTIRE theater was full.

it was a fabulous weekend spent with amazing people and 2017 is creeping around the corner, can’t wait to see what the future holds – cheers!
