life lately in photo

happy sunday, kids!! i hope everyone had a fabulous weekend. as you’re all well aware, i’ve been less than stellar at keeping up with the jones’ [aka sequins & stripes, a cup of jo, the fox & she, or the golden girl]… but i sure have been having a good time. here’s a brief recap:

we made our first maine trip of the summer where we spent the days lounging on the deck, boating over to port clyde for lunch, attempting to play polish horseshoes (HUGE FAIL – the dogs didn’t understand that we weren’t throwing the frisbee for them….], and enjoying the company of great friends. the weekend flew by and before we knew it, it was time to pack up the cars and head home. Processed with VSCO with c1 presetProcessed with VSCO with c1 presetProcessed with VSCO with c1 presetProcessed with VSCO with m5 preset

lake street dive played at the shelburne museum on friday night. it ended up being a gorgeous night for the show – cool and dry. mother nature really treated us to the best weather that night. if you haven’t been to a show there, put it on your bucket list.

we packed a picnic, grabbed some blankets and hunkered down right by the beer tent. 420546AE-577C-48B9-9928-829FECBB8F23.jpgthe funniest part about the whole evening was that jess and i ended up wearing the exact same outfit. and i promise you, we didn’t plan it.

i couldn’t sit still long enough for a decent photo. sorry, jess. 😀 i promise i’ll do better next time.

saturday night was spent with co-workers and great friends celebrating the graduation of our chief residents. dinner and the award ceremony was held at the davis center followed by drinks and more drinks downtown. we wanted a group photo. this is the only one we took. oops. fullsizeoutput_15b5

and the best part about the whole thing…. it’s a blurry selfie.

we closed out the weekend at ian’s camp in colchester. it really is hard to complain about an afternoon of sunshine and a good book.IMG_0556

speaking of books… i’ve been tearing through them recently and in desperate need of some recommendations! if you know of any good ones, please send them my way!

three worthy things

a bit of a delay on this ‘week’ of the series… life has been a tiny bit busy and i feel like i’ve finally come up for air. for now….

now that it’s officially june and almost feeling like summer here in vermont [for those of you who, also, live in vermont, you understand] i’m going to introduce you to one of my all time favorite summer essentials – rosé. which, sure sure, everyone knows and loves rosé already but i’m currently obsessing over this one. i’ve had a harder time finding it, but recently had it at a friends house who directed me toward costco to buy some. and that is EXACTLY what happened. it’s relatively cheap, comes in a pretty bottle, and is easy to drink. need i say more?Screen Shot 2017-06-04 at 5.25.31 PM.png

i follow a couple of instagram accounts related to medicine which are some of my favorite accounts to follow. i can spend 20 minutes digging through the posts; some are related to surgeries, or mystery diagnoses while some are before and after pictures of traumas. one of these said accounts directed me to codex anatomy – super cool anatomy prints, for cheap too!! i would love a gallery wall with a couple black and white prints.

and if you head there right now, they’re having a buy one get one free sale!

one of the best gifts i have ever received was “a guide to where the best chefs eat” it literally is exactly what it sounds like. the restaurants are tailored based on location and they’re a great resource when planning a trip! it’s also something fun to flip through to see if you’ve ever been to any of the restaurants!Screen Shot 2017-06-04 at 6.26.39 PM.png

and a little flash back to literally a year ago…. wishing it was as warm as it was then. AND wishing we were all at camp. ❤

happy sunday, folks.

p.s. i need some feedback on the direction you want these posts to go. aaaaand go.

three worthy things

happy hump day! we’re halfway through the week, yeehaw!

the first item this week is dedicated to all you chefs out there. my sister, tiffany, found this amazing blog (i’d be really interested in how many times have i spoken/written/typed that phrase, ha!) and sent it my way. cookie and kate is a food blog that highlights fresh vegetarian meals, appetizers, snacks and desserts. i’ve tried a handful of her recipes and i’ve LOVED everything! doesn’t hurt that they’re relatively simple to make too!! some of my personal favorites:

broccoli, cheddar & quinoa gratin

thai red curry with vegetables

roasted cauliflower and lentil tacos with creamy chipotle sauce

best part about the majority of her recipes is that they’re rarely things i would just “throw together” on a random monday night. aka, it’s not just “another taco night” super creative!

the second item in this week’s has a bit of personal nostalgia connected. skip to the third if you’re not into it.

recently all mother nature is giving us is rain. [eye roll.] it’s got me really looking forward to summer! summer in maine at gay island to be precise.  the six hour trek to cushing flies by with the windows down on the back roads. we make a quick pit stop at the local store to stock up on wine, last minute goodies and more wine which we schlep down to the dock and load into the boat. a quick ride later and we’re unloading and cracking into the wine. weekends here are best spent with a good book, digging for clams and fishing off the dock. can’t wait for maine 2017!FullSizeRender-4

tattly is an amazing temporary tattoo website based in brooklyn. each tattoo comes in a set of 2 and if your heart so desires it, i’d be surprised if tattly doesn’t sell it. they’re super cute and what friend wouldn’t like a delivery of amazing temporary tattoos?! and you can add confetti to every order – definitely an added bonus. here are a few of my personal favorites. i’d love them during the summer months hanging at the pool or lake.

and if you need even MORE of a reason to buy one… or two or three… some are scented! let me know if you find any you can’t live without! maybe i’ll feel the same way!

nyc recap

whoaaaaa, it’s been a minute since i’ve been here! i sincerely apologize for that. between taking part of a research study that gave me a full body rash and days of fevers of 102 (i think i had the plague), finishing my previous job and starting a new one i’ve been a bit distracted. oh, and we’re also house hunting. it’s been hectic here! but…. i’m back. and here to tell you all about our trip to NYC easter weekend.

tiffany and i first went to the city together two years ago in november. we were there right before the holidays and told each other we’d go back every year. this time, we decided a last minute adventure was exactly what we needed. we ate and drank our way through the city; walked miles every day and did lots of people watching – what better way to spend the time??

where we ate:

jack’s wife freda // one of the best breakfast places i’ve been to. rosemary waffles and a very unusual egg combo [but seriously, whoever decided to make eggs and serve it with greek yogurt, naan flatbread and a tomato cucumber salad… thank you]

the meatball shop has a bunch of different locations and i’d be surprised if they all weren’t thriving. we were repeat customers and definitely weren’t let down. if i lived in the nyc area, i’d get delivery from there at least once a week. although, thankfully, my wallet and waistline are better off….

again, we decided to eat at seamore’s for the second time visiting the city. it’s definitely the place to try a new kind of fish – just check out the back wall to see them all!

between eating at goa taco and tacombi i could die now. tacombi had great margs and guacamole to snack on while waiting for your tacos. their serving sizes are smaller in size but not in taste. goa taco was more eclectic in their tacos by using a paratha as a taco shell but HOLY MOLY are they good. i honestly think their slow roasted pork belly is a top three taco i’ve ever had. in my life. fullsizeoutput_14b3

where we drank:

anfora was a convenient 10 minute walk from our hotel. we started the night there with a couple really good cocktails and, if you know me, you won’t be surprised when i say that we couldn’t turn down the burrata. we sat at the bar and had excellent service. the embience is perfect for a fun date night.

eataly on fifth ave is one of the most overwhelming places EVER. if you’re a basket case in crowds, consider yourself warned. we meandered through and sat at one of the bars to have a couple glasses of wine. the people watching was insane! i could eat a quarter of their cheese selection and be full for a year. IMG_0306

where we shopped:

follain is a clean beauty store started in boston and, also, where i’ve been ordering most of my skincare and makeup from.  i REALLY wanted to make a trip to the store to see it firsthand. the packaging of the products they sell is an indicator of how beautiful the store is… it was amazing. i was like a kid in a candy store – definitely a place to check out!

m.gemi is known for their beautifully crafted italian shoes. i’ve been stalking them on the internet for quite some time, so it was awesome to check out a store to try a pair on. when i say they feel like butter on your feet, i mean the softest, most churned butter you can find.

bandier is a totally chic workout store – expensive and chic. it’s super fun to check it out every time we’re there, who knew workout clothes had such style?!

i’ve been lusting over a janessa leone hat for some time now and really wanted to try one on while we were there. instead, i feel in love with one from goorin bros – a lovely happy medium as janessa leone hats are easily $250. i didn’t really take it off the rest of the weekendIMG_0286

where we slept:

the jane hotel in the west village is perfectly located for all of our needs. it was the second time we stayed there and we opted for the bunk bed room again. because we don’t spend lots of time in the room, it works for us. shared (but very clean) bathroom down the hall and just enough room for us and our bags. word to the wise – they have a very popular club on the first floor of the hotel. if you are a light sleeper, i would avoid the jane hotel. fullsizeoutput_149d

where we explored:

described as “a revitalized piece of new york city’s past” the high line was one of my favorite places to see. it’s an old rail road track that has been converted to a walking path that has amazing architecture and plants. again, super crowded on a sunday morning, but would be a great spot for some people watching while drinking a cup of coffee.

i’ve been following paintbox on instagram for some time and it was only fitting that we check it out ourselves. they are known for their awesome nail art. we sipped some champagne and relaxed in style while getting a totally glam mani.fullsizeoutput_14b6

what’re your favorite things to do when you’re in the city??

p.s. thought you should know that i wore my red wing boots ALL over the city without even having to “break them in” and they were AMAZINGGGGG. literally cannot say enough great things about them. i highly recommend them.

three worthy things

happy friday for all you traditional working peeps. congrats, you’ve almost made it to the weekend. for me, it’s only the start of my work week and sometimes i really hate working weekends. especially when all my friends are making really fun plans without me. i digress….

i received this book for christmas from tiffany and it’s amazingggggg. i wish our living spaces could look as good as they do in the book. it’s the best coffee table book and it provides plenty of inspiration. Screen Shot 2017-03-23 at 10.44.49 AM.png

i love checking my email in the morning because i’m always looking for my daily dose of the news. theSkimm honestly makes me feel less naive about the world.

let me start by saying that the two girls who started it are geniuses and i really wish i had this idea.

they start by doing the leg work [aka, lots and lots of reading world news] and then write the “skimm’d” down version into one little email. if you’re in a rush and can only take 5 minutes to read through it, great. if you’re someone who has more time in the morning and can read through some of the articles they link into the email, also, great.

they cover everything from march madness to immigration to the presidential inauguration.

oh and sign up through me. not [really] sure what happens when you do, but just do it. 😀

look at THIS HOUSE. or more importantly the views from the house. ian and i were looking into going somewhere to spend a week during the colder months and we stumbled up on this beauty. we never even went anywhere but holy moley, i would love to spend a week here! or even a night or two. Screen Shot 2017-03-23 at 11.39.10 AM.png

Screen Shot 2017-03-23 at 11.44.44 AM.png

just imagine sippin’ on a glass of rose looking at that every evening. yes please.

“slow it down…”

happy monday, peeps – hope you all had a killer weekend.

we ventured up to montreal and hung out with the kaleo and the lumineers at the bell centre. it was one of the best nights i’ve had in a while. i’ve seen the lumineers play a couple of times before this weekend and they literally get better every time. something i love about them, is that they sound the exact same in concert as they do via spotify. 😀

AND they’re from denver which makes me love them even more. we got last minute nosebleed tickets but that didn’t even matter because it was still a blast. IMG_0139

we made a day of our adventure and stopped at zara and anthropologie on the way up where i picked up this skirt. i can’t wait to wear it when it gets a little bit warmer! especially with a pair of madeline’s high tops – yes please! Screen Shot 2017-03-20 at 10.04.37 AM.png

before the show we had to hit up my favorite restaurant, dolcetto & co. i’m not even sure what else to tell you about it besides the fact that i literally go there EVERY SINGLE TIME i’m in montreal. it simply is that good. during the summer they open the big front windows and leave the doors open. unfortunately it was a bit too cold for that this weekend…. when you go, order the burrata.

P.S. – another killer place to order burrata.

three worthy things

hiya. i’m aiming to start a weekly “three worthy things” post where i introduce new goodies – places to go, things to buy, pretty houses, interesting articles, good new recipes. if you’d like to see something in particular looked at in more detail let me know!

first up are these prints i found on etsy from tai prints. they’re simple and beautiful. i have two in my bedroom and a third in the downstairs bathroom. Screen Shot 2017-03-09 at 7.05.35 PM

i’ve found the most amazing destination house to visit this summer. or anytime of the year, rather…. this search engine is very similar to airbnb and vrbo, but it’s kid friendly in design. kid and coe have both large and small houses all throughout the world and they’re all perfect for families. i found this one called the acra residence in the catskills mountains of upstate new york and holy moly it looks fabulous. i’d love to head there this summer! Screen Shot 2017-03-09 at 7.15.14 PMScreen Shot 2017-03-09 at 7.14.12 PMScreen Shot 2017-03-09 at 7.37.20 PM

my sister, tiffany, introduced me to meredith hahn jewelry when i was in college. i, honestly, haven’t bought anything from her, but i sure do love her work. i’m a real big fan of the simpler pieces especially this rita necklace. looks great by itself or layered with another necklace. Screen Shot 2017-03-09 at 7.32.15 PMScreen Shot 2017-03-09 at 7.32.06 PM

hope you enjoyed the first ‘three worthy things’! see you next time!
