as some of you may know, i’ve been struggling with my face for quite some time. i definitely wouldn’t categorize myself as someone who has severe acne but i also, am not the person who has porcelain skin. i do, however; have some discoloration and the occasional breakout [usually around my chin]. there are times where i feel like i’m a middle schooler going through puberty again. attractive, i know.
i’ve been eating the same things my whole life – i’ve always eaten dairy, gluten, soy, nuts, sugar, and i drink. you name it, i’ve eaten it and probably have for most of my life. i can’t blame any of my skin issues on food, or sleep, or stress or lack of water; so i’ve recently been trying to eliminate harsh chemicals that i’m putting into my body and on my body.
i’ve been reading ‘skin cleanse‘ by adina grigore and have, honestly, been appalled at some of the information i read. i, instantly, became hooked and fell into the dark black [and i mean dark and black] hole of clean beauty product research. i wanted to know everything i could about clean beauty supplies.
i learned that the US only restricts 11 ingredients from cosmetics and they’re all listed here on the FDA website.
i had to stop the cycle and quit cold turkey.
i got talking with a friend of a friend about this clean beauty adventure i started and she told me about follain. it’s is a beauty store with a couple locations in boston, one in DC and a new one in NYC that focuses on clean beauty products from head to toe.
as most of you beauty addicts know, it’s hard to revamp your entire makeup bag all at once; it’s overwhelming and gets real expensive, real quick but i jumped in and made my first order from follain. i started small and there are still a bunch of products i’m lusting over.
[side note: i’ve been ordering from follain because of the raving recommendation, the close proximity to burlington which means quick shipping, and the great customer service. i accidentally ordered the wrong color in something and i emailed asking to exchange it. they responded immediately, sent me the correct color before they had gotten the wrong one, AND attached a return label for the wrong one.]
behold the holy grail:
soapwalla deodorant // i was skeptical about trying the natural deodorant route but so far so good.
ilia tinted moisturizer // i got the color T3 and i’m pretty happy. at this point, i think i’d still like a bit more coverage, but it applies smoothly and is very natural.
ilia tinted lip conditioner // i chose the color arabian nights and couldn’t be happier with the color. it’s a great red that can you can build up nicely for a dark red or wear just one layer for daytime.
rms un cover-up // this was one of the products i was most excited for. i’ve heard such good things about it and it has held up to the hype. this and a curl of the eyelashes is all i do when i’m really running late.
rms burti bronzer // this one is harder for me to get used to, but i think i’ll love it as soon as i get the hang of it.
rms lip 2 cheek // i think the lip 2 cheek will be my go to soon. again, with a little bit of practice, i’ll be reaching for it every day!
i hope this jump starts your clean beauty routine! let me know if you have any favorite products!
